The Garden Palace

The Garden Palace, Balasinor is the private residence of the Royal family of Balasinor and is set amidst lush green fields and gardens and was built in 1883 by HH Nawab Mohammad Manowarkhanji Babi. The Garden Palace built in 1883 was once used by the Diwan of Balasinor and was the Bageecha or Garden haven of the royals of Balasinor. The royal family shifted here in 1940s after their main palace called the Navchokia Palace was destroyed in a major fire during the British Raj.

In recent times it has been converted into a Heritage Homestays by the present ruler HH Nawab Mohammad Salabat Khan and his wife, Begum Farhat Sultana and ably run by their son Nawabzada Sultan Salauddin Khan Babi and daughter Nawabzadi Aaliya Sultana Babi. Nawabzada Salauddin is also assisted by his wife Dulhan Begum Zeba Sultan.

Garden Palace Heritage Homestay’s buttery yellow exterior gives away little about its lavish interiors. Relics salvaged from the old palace along with period furniture is dotted around the palace and its gardens: The family now lives on the first floor of what was once the royal guest quarters. The guest rooms are on the ground floor.

The Garden Palace, Balasinor has 6 Beautifully and uniquely done up Palace Rooms on the ground floor which are available for the guests use. Each room has old period furniture, comfortable beds, age old photos and antique knick knacks and has different paint hues. Your stay will remind you of the royal past. Despite its sense of grandeur, Garden Palace has a relaxed, informal vibe.

The Drawing Room has every corner filled with memorabilia belonging to the family of the Nawabs of Balasinor. The furniture is French Louis XIV style and the walls are covered with gilded photo frames showing generations of royals along with antiques and hunting trophies.

The dining room is filled with artefacts from brass and silver samovars to hookahs, to family heirlooms and has an old world charm!
